Doors Open Days Throughout Scotland in September
Across Scotland, thousands of people are preparing for Scotland’s largest free celebration of architecture and heritage. Doors Open Days take place every September and in locations the length and breadth of Scotland.
In 2007 nearly 5000 people gave up their time for free to welcome the public to their homes, places of work and worship, and other sites of interest. Over 900 buildings are expected to open their doors this year with many running activities and providing entertainment.
North Lanarkshire is the first area to publically announce their Doors Open Day programme, with events taking place on 13th and 14th September with some fantastic highlights including Albert Bartlett Ltd, the UK’s leading grower and packer of root vegetables, proving the opportunity to come along, find out how it all began and explore their state-of the art new facility.
The grand Gothic-style building, Calvary Church is also open to the public, while Saturday events include a book fayre with a special football programme sale, BBQ lunch, coffee morning and kids corner complete with face-painting and colouring activities.
Plant hunting in Colzium will also open your eyes to the origins of the exotic plants to be found on the Colzium-Lennox Estate. Look out too for the Roman Antonine Wall, Forth and Clyde Canal and castle ruins.
