Carnaby in London to Host Iconic Rock and Roll Photography Exhibition

Posted on October 6th, 2008

Carnaby is proud to host a unique rock and roll photographic exhibition by Rockarchive, launching to the public on Friday 17th October.

Founded by acclaimed photographer Jill Furmanovsky in 1998, Rockarchive has become the world’s finest print archive specialising in rock and roll imagery.

A decade ago and after 30 years as a rock photographer, Jill Furmanovsky was looking through her vast archive of images. Images of the great and the good of the music industry. Images that captured those decisive moments in the history of rock and roll.

Images as visceral as the punk rock days they reflected and she felt that it was such a shame that so little of her work could be seen or owned by the people who would appreciate it the most; The Fans.

And so Rockarchive was born from Jill’s vision to make her work and that of her esteemed colleagues more accessible to public.

Currently publishing the work of more than 50 photographers which includes 500 images, the Rockarchive collective continues to grow and now includes work from Mick Rock, Bob Gruen, Kate Simon, David Corio, Barrie Wentzell, Shelia Rock, Storm Thorgerson, Gered Mankowitz, Kevin Cummins, Ray Stevenson, Kevin Westenberg and of course Jill Furmanovsky.

The exhibition celebrates 10 years of publishing rare and iconic moments in rock and roll history and will be exclusively showcasing previously unpublished and unseen images before touring the globe.

With its rich music heritage extending from 1960’s to today, Carnaby is the perfect setting for these iconic images that include The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, The Who, The Clash, U2, Led Zeppelin, Razorlight and Amy Winehouse to The Sex Pistols (who originally played in Carnaby Street).

All hand signed limited edition prints will be available to buy with prices starting from £225. Early investment is recommended as print prices increase as the edition sells out.

Entrance: Free
Open: 11am – 7pm Monday – Sunday
65 – 67 Broadwick Street, Carnaby, W1

There will also be an auction of prints, for the Nordoff – Robins Music Therapy charity which will co-inside with the exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount in selected Carnaby stores.

After launching in Carnaby, London, the Rockarchive 10th anniversary exhibition will tour in 2009 through Brighton, Sydney, Tokyo, Geneva, Prague and culminates in Autumn 09 in New York.
