Denmark’s capital becomes Europe’s jazz capital during the annual 10-day Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Now in its 32nd season, this amazing festival fills the air with jazz in all its forms, ranging from traditional New Orleans jazz and swing to more contemporary, experimental styles, bebop and fusion. To make it easy to find your own type of Jazz, this year sees the introduction of themed venues; Latin Jazz, Jazz by the Sea, Jazz meets the Street, Jazz re-mixed, Avant-garde afternoons etc.

Highlight of this year’s festival will be performances by Herbie Hancock, Martha Wainwright, Caetano Velaso, Diana Krall and many others.

The annual Copenhagen Jazz Festival is a world-renowned event, this year hosting a record of more than 1000 performances by artists from all over the world. Many performances are free and held in the city’s historic streets, squares, along canals and waterfront. Major concerts are performed in The Opera House, Tivoli Gardens, The Royal Theatre, The Royal Danish Playhouse, the new Concert Hall and the Black Diamond but more than 100 venues around the city take part as most of Copenhagen’s vibrant clubs and cafes join the jazzy spirit.

Copenhagen is proud of its long tradition of attracting the best jazz musicians to gather and perform in the city. The most well-known venue is the Copenhagen Jazz House, formerly known as Jazzhus Montmartre, where legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson and Ray Charles and other huge stars have appeared from the early 1960s. This year the Jazz House is as always, a main venue to head for.

With its mix of internationally acclaimed musicians, new talent, street performers and children’s music workshops, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival is popular, family-friendly and rightfully attracts over 250,000 visitors each year.
