North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival Announces Line-Up
Comedians are taking their winter break down South. This year the 9th annual North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival will showcase improv groups from around North America and for the first time ever, stand-up comedians. NCCAF will highlight some of the best performers in the alternative comedy scene during the one of the largest comedy events in the US.
Hosted by the DSI Comedy Theater, the South’s premier theater for improv and alternative comedy, the former Dirty South Improv Festival is an annual event that features live performances, workshops, and networking events for performers. The festival runs from February 12-21, 2009 at various venues around Carrboro.
The festival rebranded itself and added an extra week to highlight its growth and larger scope. Founded in 2001, the NCCAF rapidly became a national destination for improv comedians. Each year, the festival has highlighted some of the best performers in the nation and some of the best instructors for workshops.
Improvisational comedy has been the event’s specialty. This year, for the first time, the NCCAF is open to stand-up comics. Next year, the festival will increase to three weeks and begin to showcase sketch comedy. The following year producers expect to add video to its roster, expanding to a full month of comedy.
