Posted on August 24th, 2008

Sagra Musicale Umbra is a long-standing festival of music and this year’s programme will be rich in important events of international appeal. Dedicated to ‘Fratello Suono’ (‘Brother Sound’), according to Artistic Director Aldo Bennici, the festival aims to bring people of different religious faiths closer to one another through sound.

This year’s Sagra Musicale Umbra will open with a concert by the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the celebrated conductor Jurij Temirkanov, followed by a varied programme of sacred music, interspersed with folk and World Music.

Concerts will be given in Perugia, the principal venue of the festival, at the Benedictine Basilica di San Pietro, in the old church of San Bevignate, founded by the order of the Templars, and in the historic Teatro Morlacchi, as well as in some of the most impressive locations in Umbria, a region rich in art, history and spirituality.
