Richard Gere at the Aruba International Film Festival

Aruba rolled out the red carpet this last weekend for the kick off of the first ever Aruba International Film Festival. The island-wide celebration of movies from all over the world welcomed Richard Gere as the official host of the festival.

The opening ceremony included the actor receiving the Golden Aruba Humanitarian Award, while he also participated in the festival’s “In Conversations With…” series, engaging the audience and offering meaningful insight into the film industry and the many experiences he has learned throughout his career.

The inaugural Film Festival is showcasing 28 films over the course of the week, of which the majority will be independent films of special interest.

The friendly character of the island is setting the tone for the inviting ambiance of the Festival, which aims to connect bring participants from around the world to view a wide selection of films, join in discussions, take part in workshops and panels, as well as attend special parties and events.
